Mr. Phelps serves
as counsel to the firm and is a member of our Litigation Section.
His primary area of practice is general litigation.
Mr. Phelps has been involved in such complex litigation projects
as the unfair trade practice and non-competition litigation between
Sedgwick James and Marsh McClennan; the State of Louisiana’s
claims against Tennessee Gas Company resulting in a $26 million
jury verdict in the State’s favor; and the litigation arising
out of property damage caused by the explosion of Ship Shoal 354-A-2
well which was recently tried to verdict in Texas federal court.
A 1967 graduate of Davidson College, Mr. Phelps received his J.D.
from Tulane Law School in 1970, where he was a member of the Tulane
Moot Court Board.
Mr. Phelps is a member of the New Orleans, Louisiana State and
American Bar Associations, as well as the Louisiana Association
of Defense Counsel and the National Association of Railroad Trial
Counsel.
