Loretta G. MinceLoretta G. Mince

Ms. Mince is a partner in the Litigation Section.  She practices in the area of media law, and represents The Times-Picayune newspaper, Cable News Network, Wick Communications, The Nation Institute and others in such litigation.  Ms. Mince also practices in the area of commercial litigation, and regularly represents the State of Louisiana Department of Revenue state corporate income and franchise tax litigation.

In her media law practice, Ms. Mince currently represents The Times-Picayune and CNN in litigation against the State Attorney General over the public's right of access to records related to the deaths at Memorial Medical Center news link following Hurricane Katrina.  Other matters litigated for The Times-Picayune include suits seeking access to court records in the criminal, racketeering and civil cases involving former Judge Alan Green news link, former Judge Ronald Bodenheimer news link, U.S. Congressman William Jefferson news link, Al Copeland news link, Corey Miller (“C-Murder”) news link, District Attorney Eddie Jordan, former East Jefferson Levee District Director Alan Francingues news link, former Judge C. Hunter King news link, former Insurance Commissioner Jim Brown, Jefferson Parish Councilman John Young news link, Crescent City Baptist School news link, attorneys fees awarded in the class action against Shell Oil over sulfur-tainted gasoline, and class action claims against various tobacco companies.

Ms. Mince has also handled Public Records Act disputes against the New Orleans Police Department news link, Orleans Parish Coroner Frank Minyard news link, the Jefferson Parish City Council news link, the New Orleans Aviation Board, the City of New Orleans, Louisiana State University, and HANO.
  
In addition to access matters, Ms. Mince has successfully defended The Times-Picayune and others in numerous defamation lawsuits brought by Nicholas Estiverne news link, Arden Wells news link, Sheriff Harry Lee, former NOPD officer George Lee, and others.  In 2007, Chambers USA called Ms. Mince “A ‘bright, organized and meticulous'  young lawyer [who] is best known for her media work encompassing access disputes, libel and defamation cases for the Times-Picayune and other news organizations.

In her commercial litigation and tax practice, Ms. Mince has represented clients in a variety of matters, including securities fraud class actions, commercial disputes involving the Tour Eiffel Building, the YMCA building on Lee Circle, Sanderson Farms, Inc., Berk-Cohen Associates, SMG (the company managing the Louisiana Superdome and New Orleans Arena), and state income and franchise tax suits against International Paper, Florida Gas Company, Shell Oil Company, Lafarge North America, Argosy Gaming, BP Oil Supply, United Artists, and others.

Lori graduated cum laude from Tulane University in 1992. She obtained her J.D., magna cum laude, from Loyola University School of Law in 1998, where she was a member of the Loyola Law Review. She is the author of "Louisiana Smoked Products, Inc. v. Savoie & Sausage and Food Products, Inc.: If You Like Laws and Sausages."  Ms. Mince was elected a fellow of the Louisiana Bar Foundation in 2006 and is a member of Louisiana State, Federal and American Bar Associations.  She regularly speaks and lectures in the area of media law, and is on the Faculty of Tulane University.
