Mr. Walmsley is a
member of our Corporate Section. His areas of practice include mergers
and acquisitions, corporate, banking and securities law, and general
business transactions.
In the last five years, Robert has advised business clients
in such matters as the acquisition of banks and banking assets;
acquisition of interests in companies owning and operating gas processing
and pipeline facilities; joint venture arrangements; leveraged management
buyouts of real estate holding and operating companies; and negotiation
on behalf of the State of Louisiana and its property manager, SMG,
of facility leases for professional sports teams including the New
Orleans Saints, the New Orleans Hornets NBA Limited Partnership
and the New Orleans Brass Hockey Club.
Robert graduated magna cum laude from Princeton University
in 1968, then went on to receive his J.D. degree from Virginia Law
School in 1974. While at UVA, he was a member of the Virginia Law
Review. He was a law clerk to the Honorable John Minor
Wisdom, Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth
Circuit, during the 1974-1975 term.
Robert has been repeatedly listed in The Best Lawyers in
America in corporate law. He has been active in the New Orleans,
Louisiana State and American Bar Associations, having held positions
of responsibility in all three, including service as Chairman of
the Section on Corporate and Business Law of the Louisiana State
Bar Association from 1993-1994, Chairman of the ABA’s Committee
on Corporate Practice from 1995-1999 and as a member of the ABA’s
Committee on Corporate Laws from 1988-1994 and 2005-present. He is also a member
of the American Law Institute.
